[SCOTLAND]. [Parker, David]. [The Headstone Of Cockburn Of Henderland MDXXIX i.e. 1529].
[Henderland?]: [1846].
Folio, 28cm, 4p.. 2 hand drawn illustration (one hand-coloured). Contemporary green cloth (spine worn at head and tail; internal hinges split), gilt upper cover titling.
An attractive manuscript, dedicated to William Of Henderland, with a line drawn illustration of the monumental stone on the 16th century grave of [William or Piers] Cockburn of Henderland and his lady and a watercolour illustration of a knight in armour, illustrating this short history of Cockburn, decision to repair the tomb by William Murray and description of partial exhumation of the tomb, quoting from Walter Scott and Chambers Picture Of Scotland.
Cockburn of Henderland was executed in 1529 at the order of James V for various crimes of theft and lawlessness. The manuscript, prepared by David Parker, was clearly intended as a recognition of Murray’s restoration of the tomb in 1841. Ex-libris bookplate of Henry Archibald Cockburn.
