[DECORATED PAPER BINDING]. Cossa, Angelo. Epigrammi.
Milano i.e. Milan: Coi Tipi Di Gio Pirotta, 1815.
8vo, 31, [1]pp. Marbled paper wrappers, title page has printer’s ornament of fruit basket and Latin quotation from Horace. Lightly foxed, very faint water stain throughout.
Pamphlet containing seventy numbered epigrams and an appendix with three sonnets. Some of the epigrams are headed by titles and/or Latin quotations. The epigrams are sharp, sometimes rude and a number with characters from classical mythology. The final sonnet, dedicated to the author’s sister, is an apology for his erroneous ways. Little seems to be known of this writer, who, according to a title page in another of his publications was a member of several scientific and literary societies. He published literary and dramatic works and wrote about Milan, all between 1812 and 1840. This pamphlet seems to be held only by three Italian libraries, in Rome, Avellino, and Monza.
