A lengthy hand-written letter from Angela Lansbury, written before she gained the role of Miss Marple, to a school friend, Joan Oliver, living in Hampstead, London. The letter of some thousand words discusses schooldays memories and how they both had a crush on Errol Flynn who now passes up and down her road in Hollywood “in his swanky car”and the pleasant Hollywood climate.
Further pages describe her early film career in Hollywood and how she is under contract to Metro-Goldwyn Mayer and has done three pictures Gaslight, National Velvet and The Picture of Dorian Grey and the reception of Gaslight in England as well as the activities of her mother and sister.
In concluding pages, Angela talks of her cottages in Laurel Canyon, tennis & piano lessons and a mention of the war in Europe and the hope that “we can keep the Germans back” and finally of homesickness for London and the promise to entertain Joan should she come. Signed “Your old pal Brigid.”
